Upper Main Jura
Also called God’s Garden on the Upper Main River, this area is known for its art and quaintness. It is a special place on Earth that offers world-famous baroque buildings as well as a lively and storied heritage of art and craftsmanship.
Rolling hills, lush forests, and a broad river plain are characteristic of the God’s Garden on the Upper Main Jura. The area is perfect for relaxing, hiking, bicycling, and boating trips. Another great place to recharge is the amazing Upper Main River Hot Spring Resort in Bad Staffelstein, Bavaria’s biggest and warmest saltwater spring. The storied Staffelberg Mountain is the perfect place for expansive views of many of the areas treasures. The Staffelberg, the Banz Monastery and the world-famous pilgrimage church across from Banz are considered Franconia’s Trifecta.
Basket-making is one of those ancient traditions with deep roots in the Upper Main Jura. The town of Lichtenfels celebrates its basket-making heritage with Basket Market. In Michelau i.OFr., the German Basket Making Museum offers information and education about this ancient craft.
